Jim Dunlop (FL PE# 42547) is the owner of Jim Dunlop Solar, and a leading expert on solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. He began his professional career at the Florida Solar Energy Center, supporting the U.S. Department of Energy’s Southeast Regional Experiment Station for PV systems research and engineering, and recently worked for the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) developing curriculum on PV systems for the IBEW-NECA national electrical apprenticeship program. He has been involved in the specification, design, installation and evaluation of hundreds of PV systems, and has authored and published numerous papers, articles and reports, including the popular textbook Photovoltaic Systems, which is becoming the industry standard for colleges, vocational training and apprenticeship programs throughout the country. He has conducted hundreds of presentations, seminars and training programs on PV systems for a variety of audiences, and chairs the technical committee for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV installer certification program. He has a broad understanding of energy resources, policies and infrastructure, and his background includes considerable experience with energy conservation and energy efficient technologies, as well as the building trades and construction industries. He has diverse capabilities built on a strong technical background, and his communication skills, leadership and proven reputation are well known by industry leaders. He holds a B.S. in Engineering Sciences from the University of Florida and is a licensed Florida professional engineer.
